RéaLab: A Therapy Space for Geriatric Rehabilitation Patients at Trois-Chêne

Turning a shared room into a modern, safe, and patient-centered therapy space

context

Today, geriatric rehabilitation patients at Trois-Chêne undergo physiotherapy and occupational therapy in unsuitable areas: corridors, busy passageways, spaces lacking privacy and confidentiality. This setting undermines patient comfort and dignity while limiting the quality of care. In response, caregivers, therapists, and management came together to design a transformation: a modern, calm, and safe therapy space. Inspired by successful initiatives at other HUG sites, RéaLab addresses an urgent and structural need. It is a project focused on dignity, efficiency, and innovation, serving over 950 patients each year.

Project

The RéaLab project aims to transform a former common room into a bright, ergonomic, and patient-adapted therapy space for geriatric rehabilitation. This space will host physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and interdisciplinary approaches in a safe and respectful environment. It will provide higher-quality care, encourage active patient participation, and improve working conditions for staff. RéaLab will become a cornerstone of modern, human-centered rehabilitation aligned with ST-REHA quality standards.
