Context
Weight gain in young patients with psychiatric disorders is often a metabolic disturbance caused by a side effect of the psychotropic drugs they take as part of treatment. This weight gain has consequences not just in cardiovascular and metabolic disorders; it doesn’t help psychologically if patients feel bad about themselves because of the extra weight.
Project
With the help of an athletic coach and a nutritionist, the project sets up a specific treatment program for these patients by limiting the unwanted side effects of psychotropic treatment. The young adolescents are led to understand the benefit of a healthier lifestyle from a dietary perspective, with physical activity as a key component. This support helps them to accept themselves more fully
