Context
Diabetes is a chronic disease of cellular metabolism. Many people in Switzerland have it and must be monitored rigorously and treated daily. The research group has worked for years to define the factors involved in regulating the genes that code for the two hormones that are crucial in controlling glucose homeostasis.
Project
The project entails developing the work of this reputable laboratory in order to better understand metabolic malfunctioning and its genetic connections. What is the mechanism of action of external factors in diabetes? Can we find a genetic origin? How can external factors be moderated and acted upon so as to modify their action? What roles do they play in insulin treatment resistance? In light of new treatments, the team at the Molecular Diabetology Laboratory is also working on biological and genetic markers.
