Thanks to support from a private foundation in Geneva, the Foundation is putting up a total of 5 million Swiss Francs this year to fund research projects (clinical, translational, and fundamental) and projects related to patients, processes, and care quality. These projects must be run by associates of the Geneva University Hospitals or the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Medicine. The research proposals will be reviewed by the Scientific Advisory Committee with the help of outside experts, and selections will be made by the Foundation Council.
The Foundation is issuing five new calls for 2020:
1- CONFIRM grant of CHF 600,000
- Research (clinical, fundamental, or translational)
- Grants are awarded primarily to advanced research projects that foster collaboration between at least two research groups
- Funding is provided in three rounds of CHF 200,000 per year. Payment of the second and third rounds is conditional upon a favorable evaluation of the interim activity report of the project’s progress and achievement of objectives.
- Submission Deadline: January 19, 2020
2- STARTER grant of CHF 200,000 (funding for this year provided by the Louis-Jeantet Foundation)
- Translational research
- Grants are awarded primarily to translational research projects that foster collaboration between a fundamental research group (University Medical Center) and a clinical research group (HUG)
- Funding is provided in two rounds of CHF 100,000 per year. Payment of the second round is conditional upon a favorable evaluation of the interim activity report of the project’s progress and achievement of objectives.
- Submission Deadline: January 19, 2020
3- PATIENTS AND PROCESSES grant of CHF 200,000
- Grant dedicated to research projects with the objective of identifying the most effective means to provide, maintain, and fund the best possible quality care; as well as means to reduce the number of medical errors, implement new medical practices, and improve patient safety.
- These projects aim to improve healthcare processes, structures, or issues; or to improve best medical practices.
- Funding is provided in two rounds of CHF 100,000 per year. Payment of the second round is conditional upon a favorable evaluation of the interim activity report of the project’s progress and achievement of objectives.
- Submission Deadline: March 29st, 2019
4- PRIORITY
- Projects on the theme "Multidisciplinary care of children with rare or complex diseases
- Directives communicated in January 2020
- Submission Deadline: May 10, 2020
5- PATIENT-CENTRIC call
- Funding of projects aiming to improve patient comfort or care quality to benefit all patients, whatever the medical specialty or area.
